Your crew wraps and pads the furniture, carries everything out, drives it across town, and sets it back up where you point. Standard furniture gets taken apart and put back together. How hourly pricing works
Local moves are billed hourly, based on how many movers and trucks the job needs. There's a three-hour minimum plus a standard travel fee that covers getting the truck to you and back. That's it. No surprise line items for stairs, long carries from the far end of a parking lot, or an extra stop to grab a storage unit on the way. You get a free, no-obligation estimate first so you know the range before we start, and the deposit to hold your date is usually $100 to $200. You pay the balance when the last box is in.
How we protect your place and your stuff
Protection isn't an upsell here, it's how every crew works. Furniture gets padded and shrink-wrapped before it moves an inch. We roll out floor runners across hardwood and carpet, pad the doorways and banisters, and watch the tight corners that scuff walls. Mattresses go in bags, glass tops get extra care, and dressers ride wrapped so drawers stay shut. If your building or HOA needs a certificate of insurance, your coordinator files it ahead of the date so nothing stalls at the front desk.
What to expect on move day
The crew calls when they're on the way and arrives inside your window. They do a quick walkthrough, agree on what's going and what's staying, then get to work padding and loading. You'll have one lead running the crew and a coordinator you can reach if anything shifts. Most local moves in the DMV wrap in a single day, and many finish well before dinner. When it's done, we place the furniture, reassemble the beds, and don't leave until you've had a look around and you're happy with it.

What counts as a local move?
Generally a move that stays within the DMV region, so origin and destination both in Northern Virginia, Maryland, or Washington DC. Those are billed hourly. Once you cross into a true interstate haul over a longer distance, we usually quote a flat, binding long-distance rate instead. Your coordinator will tell you which fits your route.
How much does a local move cost?
Local moves are hourly, priced by crew size and number of trucks, with a three-hour minimum plus a standard travel fee. A one-bedroom apartment lands very differently than a four-bedroom house, so we give you a free estimate with a realistic range up front. There's no charge added for stairs, long carries, or additional stops.
Can you move me the same day?
Often, yes, depending on the day and crew availability. Same-day and next-day local moves happen a lot for us, especially for smaller apartments. Call as early as you can and we'll tell you honestly what's open. The sooner you lock a date, the better your odds during busy weekends and month-end.
Is there a deposit, and how do I pay?
A deposit of roughly $100 to $200 holds your date, and the balance is due at completion. We take card (3.5% processing fee), Zelle, or cash. We don't accept checks, Amex, or CashApp. Your final total reflects the actual hours worked, so a faster job costs you less.
Do you charge extra for stairs or a long walk to the truck?
No. Stairs, long carries from a far parking spot, and an extra stop along the way are all included in your hourly rate. Garden apartments and walk-ups are routine for us. We'd rather quote you straight than nickel-and-dime you on move day, so the number you plan around is the number you pay.
Do you cover Maryland and DC, not just Virginia?
We do. FLYT is based in Manassas and Ashburn but works the whole DMV, including moves into and around Montgomery and Prince George's County in Maryland and across Washington DC. Building COIs, reserved elevators, and city parking are all part of the routine for our crews.
